 +====== How to Install the Backup Server ======

 +===== Introduction =====
 +We never hope for a hardware failure. But we should always plan for one. But someday, it is possible that the server (or a critical component of the server) will fail. If you have wisely followed the counsel about
 +[[en:redundancy#hardware_redundancy|Server Redundancy]], you will have a backup server ready to use in case of an emergency. This will minimise your downtime.
 +
 +What you need:
 +  * Your backup server machine
 +  * An IDTM backup drive
 +
 +===== Installing the Backup Server =====
 +  - //Carefully// disconnect all cables from the old server
 +    * Power, monitor, mouse, keyboard, backup drive
 +  - //Carefully// connect the same cables to the "new" server
 +  - Turn on the machine and log in
 +    * The username and password should be the same as on the old server
 +  - Open the IDTM-Library folder.
 +  - Plug in the USB backup drive and navigate to the most recent backup.
 +  - Copy the folder containing the most recent date. Paste this into the IDTM-Library folder on the new server.
 +
 +===== Updating Client Computers =====
 +You may need to update the network drive connections for the server on each client computer if the IP address is different on the new server.
 +Follow this guide [[en:howto-connectnetworkdrive|How to Connect a Network Drive]].
