====== How to Install the Backup Server ====== ===== Introduction ===== We never hope for a hardware failure. But we should always plan for one. But someday, it is possible that the server (or a critical component of the server) will fail. If you have wisely followed the counsel about [[en:redundancy#hardware_redundancy|Server Redundancy]], you will have a backup server ready to use in case of an emergency. This will minimise your downtime. What you need: * Your backup server machine * An IDTM backup drive ===== Installing the Backup Server ===== - //Carefully// disconnect all cables from the old server * Power, monitor, mouse, keyboard, backup drive - //Carefully// connect the same cables to the "new" server - Turn on the machine and log in * The username and password should be the same as on the old server - Open the IDTM-Library folder. - Plug in the USB backup drive and navigate to the most recent backup. - Copy the folder containing the most recent date. Paste this into the IDTM-Library folder on the new server. ===== Updating Client Computers ===== You may need to update the network drive connections for the server on each client computer if the IP address is different on the new server. Follow this guide [[en:howto-connectnetworkdrive|How to Connect a Network Drive]].
